Follow in their footsteps and visit the very places where they created a new nation. This is a fully guided tour both on coach and on foot through the heart of Philadelphia’s Historic district. Sites may include; The National Constitution Center, Liberty Bell Center, Independence Hall, Congress Hall, First and Second Bank of the U.S., Benjamin Franklin’s Print Shop, Betsy Ross House, (if available) Franklin’s Grave, Elfreth’s Alley & Christ Church. One Liberty Observation Deck will take you 883 feet above street level, to see Philly like never before. The Observation Deck will provide amazing 360-degree views of Philadelphia and beyond. From up here you will enjoy incredible views of City Hall, Delaware and Schuylkill Rivers, Fairmount Park, Love Park, and the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. After, board the motor coach for the Franklin Institute where they have fun down to a science. Your students will have free time to explore the many exhibits the Franklin Institute has to offer. Experienced miners act as guides and explain the operation of battery powered mine cars that take you on a tour through a coal mine. Take a steam train ride around the mountainside to an abandoned strip mine and bootleg coalhole. Later, tour one of America’s natural wonders…Crystal Cave. The cave is a dazzling arena of crystalline formations carved by nature through the ages. In addition to the cave, see real Indian Totem Poles, a tree plantation and walk along a beautiful nature trail. Enjoy some free time for lunch on your own.

With emphasis on the “human side” of the conflict, the National Civil War Museum portrays this struggle as a time line from the issues straining the nation through the war’s conclusion at Appomattox Court House. Next, visit the State Museum of Pennsylvania where their goal is to provide interpretation to young people, empowering them to explore, discover and experience the treasures of the Commonwealth. Now, take a stroll over to Strawberry Square for lunch on your own. Following lunch, head over to the Pennsylvania Capitol Building. This beautiful building was constructed in 1906 and designed to resemble our nation’s capital. Learn how our Senators and State Representatives govern our state. End your day on a sweet note with a visit to Hershey’s Chocolate World including a 4-D show.

Share with your students the three momentous days of this sad time in history – The Battle of Gettysburg.

The newly renovated Cyclorama, film and museum experience at the visitor’s center will transport your class to this historic event. Afterwards, a step-on guide will explain the turn of events on your tour of the battlefield. After lunch on your own, visit the American Civil War Museum where life-sized dioramas bring the past back to life. During your visit, an animated President Lincoln delivers his famous Gettysburg Address.

This experience is hard to resist. Who doesn’t like Ice cream?

Visit the Turkey Hill Experience in Lancaster County, PA. Learn how ice cream is made and stored, milk a mechanical cow, create your own ice cream flavor, design your own container and play games like shoot the bad bacteria. The “Taste Lab” is where you will get to create your own special ice cream flavor. The best part – you get to eat your new creation, all the while learning how ice cream is really made at Turkey Hill. There are over 26,000 sq. ft. of interactive games and exhibits to explore. You can even take your picture in a giant container of ice cream or in a Turkey Hill delivery truck. Enjoy free teas and selected ice cream samples before you head home.
