Philadelphia Heritage Tour

Philadelphia Heritage Tour

African American Heritage Tour – Philadelphia, PA

Philadelphia’s African American history is nearly as old as the city itself. The slaves were brought here as early as 1684. By 1780, when Pennsylvania became the first colony to abolish slavery, the city had a large free Black community. Visit the Liberty Bell and The President’s House, which served as the first “White House” while Philadelphia was the capital of the United States. See “Old Pine” Presbyterian Church, which is said to have been a stop along the Underground Railroad, and Mother Bethel A.M.E. Church, which was founded in 1781 by Richard Allen.

Experience history where it actually happened. No visit to Philadelphia is complete without seeing the sites in the most historic square mile in the United States. Visit the African American Museum in Philadelphia, the first institution built by a major city to house and interpret the life and work of African Americans. Experience the richness and vibrancy of African American heritage and culture as it comes alive in four magnificent exhibition galleries.
